How Can I Make My DSL Faster?

Most people want to get fast DSL Internet or at least get some fast Internet.

DSL Internet uses phone lines so usually the Internet provider will not need to run new wires into the house for service. DSL is distance sensitive, meaning the closer to the phone company hub, the better performance you will get.

Some things that can slow down your DSL speed are:
  • Spyware and other unwanted or unneeded software on your computer.
  • Wiring that has deteriorated with time or wear and tear.
  • How many users are online concurrently. This can be in the house or even in the neighborhood as everyone on the same line will be sharing the bandwidth.
  • Old damaged DSL modem.
So to get the fastest DSL Internet service for your area, make sure you check these factors among others. If you are still having connection problems contact your Internet provider or find a high-speed DSL Internet provider in you rarea.

Additional data
Asymmetric digital subscriber line - traditionally DSL has been asymmetrical, meaning data goes down (to your computer) fast then it goes up (to the Internet). This is because in the past people downloaded more then they uploaded. Now that is not neccessarily the case. WIth connected devices and uploading pictures and video people are uploading a lot more than they used to.

Symmetric digital subscriber line is download and upload at the same speeds. As people do more uploading of files and with connected devices symmetrical speeds are becoming more popular.

You don't need to know all of the technology behind DSL to get high-speed DSL Internet at your house. Once you have Internet connected you shouldn't really have to do much to keep connected these days.
